Getting to Teranga

Teranga is located at a beach called Wongaling, which is connected to Mission Beach along the same strip of sand. The beach overlooks Dunk Island, and is rarely crowded. Unlike the more popular northern beaches like Port Douglas, there are few daytrippers to Mission Beach. Most people visit Mission Beach as a destination.
Mission Beach is one of only a few spots in Australia where two World Heritage areas – the wet tropics rainforest, and the Great Barrier Reef meet. Cairns to Mission Beach is a very accessible and easy drive.

How far is Mission Beach from Cairns?

Getting from Cairns to Mission Beach is 1.5 to 2 hours drive southbound on 139km of sealed road. Take Highway No. 1 (also known as Bruce highway), which will take you through the heart of sugar cane and banana plantations which is nice scenery if you have never seen them close up.

We recommend you hire a car from Cairns airport, and take a leisurely drive stopping along the way. Innisfail is the main township of the Cassawary Coast, and is a good spot to stop and stretch your legs. The shopping centre is the last major township until you arrive at Mission Beach, so if there are any grocery items which take your fancy, this is a good place to stock up.
